A day of coordinator can save you a ton of stress, and really let you enjoy your day.  True, your family and friends can help you set up and decorate, but do you want them to? Having a coordinator means your friends and family can relax too, and enjoy spending time with you on your day. They don't have to rush to set up everything and then rush to get ready themselves. Plus, you don't have to feel like you are troubling them by asking for help.  It will also keep family conflicts to a minimum as there won' be any unsolicited advice about what you should do.  An experienced coordinator is also a pro at trouble shooting any problems that may occur.  They can help you create an itinerary for your ceremony and reception so that you have a nice flow of events and there is no confusion during the day.  A coordinator can handle your rehearsal and answer any of those tricky "what do we do when...." questions.  You don't have to worry about whether or not your cake has arrived and if it is set up in the proper location, because the coordinator is on site to direct all deliveries. A coordinators job is to carry out your ideas, and wishes just as you want things done. It may seem like a day of coordinator is unnecessary if you have willing friends and family, but when you consider all of the stress you will save on your day, they are completely worth it.  Having a coordinator help you with your entire planning process also has it's perks.  Coordinators can help save you time and money by knowing which vendors are best for your event and within your budget. That alone can save you hours of time researching. Coordinators stay up to date on everything wedding related.  So if you aren't too sure your decor will flow, just ask your coordinator!  Many times coordinators actually pay for themselves with all of the money they can save you.    What if my venue has a coordinator?
Check with the coordinator to see exactly what they do, and at what point they leave.  Many venue coordinators do not assist with decor, set up, or clean up. Often times they leave at a certain point in the evening.  Most of the time this is after dinner is served or the cake has been cut, leaving you and your family to coordinate the bouquet toss, garter toss, and exit.  It's always good to check and see exactly what the coordinator actually does.
